Finished 315CMC
I have now finished the module 315CMC, my blog is all up to date, tested and fully working on all browsers. I have put the marking criteria below I have adhered to this throughout my journey of web blogging and creating my essays/responses:
Criteria:
Does the artifact and associated research and development content meet the minimum requirements of the module?

Do the responses to the readings/debates demonstrate a clear understanding of some of the key concepts relating to the development and social and cultural impact of web 2 technologies?

Does the artifact demonstrate a systematic approach to its subject matter, in terms of research and execution, has it developed far beyond the basic installation of Wordpress?

Has the student produced the correct output in terms of file types, duration and combination of elements. Does it function correctly?

Does the final artifact contain evidence of analysis in how to best combine the variety of media elements, stills, text, moving image, sound: in an innovative way that shows a clear grasp of the possibilities of web 2 technologies?

Please be sure to look at my 500 word responses “page” and “category” respectfully also my category “Blog Editing”
Thank you.

Negative aspects of Web 2.0
As I have discussed in my other responses Web 2.0 is giving a lot more content and information to the users of the internet and enhancing the whole web experience in every way interactively, as well as giving power and voice to those otherwise unheard, but what about the negative aspects of web 2.0? Does the future of web 2.0 bring problems for the internet, the users, and society itself? In this response I will look at the negative aspects of web 2.0 and debates about society, piracy as well as economic issues that this might create.
I found this very interesting article written by Masahiko ISHIZUKA (Councilor for the Foreign Press Center Japan)
The article covers the aspects of web 2.0 and what it brings to the worlds population but it challenges the benefits of giving previously unheard people a voice by saying that within the Japanese culture people look up to the popular figures in their society and giving people that are unheard may cause problems within the social order, this is true for us here in Great Britain, to give voice and popularity to people that are unvoiced in the media is not always a good thing, look at the more recent problems such as terrorist threats, in many BBC and English newspaper articles the internet has been blamed for the promotion and development of extremist videos, organisations and even aiding terrorist operations.
http://www.theregister.co.uk/2005/07/27/bbc_al_qaeda_internet/
In this specific article it highlights the negative aspects of Google map where terrorists are using the Google map utility to pinpoint weaknesses in British troop settlements.
http://www.usip.org/pubs/specialreports/sr116.html
This site is an overview on how terrorists can use the internet and the benefits of the internet to expand and develop their audience.
You might argue that without this information published online then terrorist organisations will get hold of it either way, I agree with this but the internet has made it a lot easier for people to exploit information, with no real control of the internet I think that the simple answer to restrict information is; if you don’t want people to know then it shouldn’t be published. This way if information is published from an unofficial source you cannot be sure that it will be 100% accurate.
As the sharing and exchange of information over the internet is becoming more and more popular one problem that is cropping up is the problem of copyright and piracy. As information exchange is now done simply done by the touch of a button people overlook the fact that just because it is so easy doesn’t make it “OK†to do.
We were given an article in a lecture about an author that was finding it very hard to get published, when he created his own podcast and read his own work online for download he became a very popular podcast channel that not only produced interest by many publishers to in turn help him become a fully published author.
I think that this is a balance, financially the bigger companies may lose out through piracy of music and software, but it is forcing a social change to create more for the users, for example to just create an music album is no longer enough, and even though this is a negative aspect for larger companies it is a social revolution for the people as we will see huge change and receive more from software publishers, musicians and artists, for example look at open source software such as programmes gaining popularity such as “Open Office”.
With piracy, financially way that the internet is going I don’t think that it is an issue, yes piracy is a problem, but the restrictions on copyright and protections are being increased more and more, but as within the music industry the publishers and record labels are the ones that take most of the money, and with the ability of music downloads and sharing over the internet it will just wipe out these so called “pop idol†style bands, bands that are successful now are successful through their music and are making money through performing live in spectacular events and “gigging†this is giving the music industry a lot more credibility than just simply creating money making bands produced and created by record labels.
The web is shaping our culture in many more ways than the media will ever acknowledge as the medium of newspapers and television are seriously under threat from this global phenomenon. Yes, there are negative aspects that come with web 2.0 that I have highlighted in this article but these cannot be controlled as the users now add and control the content, but from the beginning of time negative aspects have always been exploited by someone somewhere, if the user is the creator and content is king then I am sure that good and popularity of what the public and users want will prevail online and in turn socially.

My Degree Show
Popularity: 1%
Modeling for the Whiteroom in Coventry we reached the regional finals with this photo.

It was a great event and very well organised. A very good show and a good day, we finished 6th overall which was a great result for the salon in its 1st year! and I was surprised of the “look” the judges went for, but I guess it’s about what they are looking for so can’t complain. I have a great time and met some cool people, also cruised to and from the event in style in a Bentley great day!

Now I’m going to get myself in the gym along with tying up my degree, and try for a good result and a good display at the University degree show as well as try for the mens health cover competition!
